Malang Regency is a regency in East Java. It had a population of 2,446,218 at the 2010 Census, excluding the areas and populations of the two autonomous cities of Malang and Batu which geographically lie within the regency but are administratively independent of it. The capital of the Regency is Kepanjen. The majority of the population reside within the Greater Malang (Malang Raya), a metropolitan area which includes the cities of Malang and Batu, and 15 of the districts within the regency that comprise the valley between the two (the cities lie some 20 km apart).
